Feed our families.
Is shopping your JAM? Because our Grocery Team is pretty GRAPE! These fun foodies need ongoing support shopping for groceries at local markets and delivering food boxes from the San Diego Food Bank to families throughout the County. Grocery volunteers are reimbursed for all purchases and can choose when and how often they would like to contribute. Grocery shopping and food delivery are lovely acts of kindness and necessary for keeping our families healthy and fed until they are able to meet these needs independently. Send us a message for more information.
Clothe our families.
Vying for the spot of America’s Next Top Clothing Delivery Person? Our Passion for Fashion Team needs ongoing assistance delivering prepackaged clothing bundles to our families. Most refugees arrive to San Diego wearing the same clothes they were wearing when they escaped their home country. Oftentimes these garments have stains, tears, missing buttons or broken zippers from weeks of rewashing and rewearing. Our Clothing Lead Volunteers obtain clothing sizes and preferences for each member of every new family. Clothing bundles are then delivered by volunteers. Refugees are typically overcome with joy when they see their new clothing and that joy is contagious! If this work makes your heart flutter, contact us for more information.
Comfort our families.
Our volunteers share SEW much love with our families! Currently, many of our refugee families are from Afghanistan and nearby nations. Afghans traditionally furnish their living rooms and entertainment spaces with beautiful rugs and floor-style seating. This seating is made from pillows or mattress and is easy to rearrange to accommodate guests. Our Sewing Team is recruiting individuals with basic sewing skills to cover mattresses and large foam toppers with beautiful fabric that has been donated to our organization for this project. Sewing volunteers need to own a sewing machine (a basic model will work great) and have a relatively large space to work. Supplies and instruction are provided by our Sewing Lead Volunteers. Interested in welcoming our families by honoring tradition and cultural preference? Please reach out for more information.
Transport donations to our families.
Quite often we receive donation offers from individuals who are unable to deliver their item(s) to our storage space or to a family directly. Do you own a truck, van, or SUV? We need your help transporting larger donations such as mattresses, tables, chairs, and adult bikes. Transport volunteers assist as their schedules allow. Please let us know if you’re up for the task. We appreciate you!
Help us fundraise.
We are incredibly flattered when an individual or group puts forth the time and care to assist with fundraising efforts. The possibilities are limitless when it comes to putting the F-U-N in fundraising. Individuals have adopted our group as the recipient of birthday or holiday gifts. Groups have hosting in-kind donation drives to provide families with favorite foods, shoes, blankets, welcome baskets, toys, bikes, and sewing machines. Others have sent letters to companies on our behalf to solicit funds or goods. And, a few dedicated individuals have developed partnerships with businesses to allow us to purchase essential items at discounted prices. We love seeing the love for our families in action.
Interested in hosting a fundraiser or in-kind donation drive? Enthusiastic about speaking with businesses and brands about our work? A business owner yourself wanting to pursue philanthropic endeavors? Have the skillset for grant writing? Please share your ideas with us and we will gladly and gratefully support you in supporting us!
